ALSTROM - Words & Music

After 'A Tale of Two Sisters', the idea of writing about a washed up, reclusive rock singer began to form for me. I had no idea at that stage how the story would unfold, or what kind of person the singer would be. But I knew that she would emerge as I began to write about her.
In the event, the writing was delayed by about 18 months due to personal circumstances.
But during that time, returning home late after hospital visits, I would sit at my keyboard and compose the songs that eventually became the soundtrack to the book.

In the event, the writing was delayed by about 18 months due to personal circumstances.
But during that time, returning home late after hospital visits, I would sit at my keyboard and compose the songs that eventually became the soundtrack to the book.
At first, as the songs emerged, there didn't seem to be any obvious connection between them. But, looking back, they were my first introduction to the character of Tyra, my reclusive rock singer. The next challenge, since I can't hold a tune in a bucket, was to find a vocalist. I had the words and I had the music, but my singing was like a pond full of enthusiastic, but tuneless frogs. So I set out to find a singer, and, with remarkable good fortune, discovered the very talented Heather LeAnn. Heather interpreted the songs exactly how I heard them in my head. And she was an absolute delight to work with. |
Then finally, I was in a position to write the story.
Many aspects of it came as a surprise for me.
The book can be read without listening to the album.
And, of course, the album can be listened to without reading the book.
But I think the two enhance each other, and they certainly emerged hand-in-hand
